Hillman Library at University of Pittsburgh

Far fewer books than before the remodel. Would make for a great resort setting, though...

The Hillman Library is the largest library at Pitt and is one of the largest in the nation. As of the time of this review, the library is finishing renovations. During my recent visits, I spent time on three floors. I liked that the library had an abundance of desks, tables, chairs, sofas, meeting rooms with whiteboards and televisions, and printers and copiers. The library was quiet for me to focus on my reading.

The Hillman Library is the largest library at the University of Pittsburgh and is one of the largest libraries in the country. According to the library's website, the library contains approximately 1.5 million volumes, over 200 computers, and study capacity for 1,500 people. These other reviews are several years old. Please note that as of spring 2023, this library is in the final phase of renovations, and I thought that it already looked nice when I visited yesterday. I walked through all floors except for the ground floor that was temporarily closed. I saw lots of tables and chairs, some sofas, many meeting rooms with whiteboards and televisions, photocopiers and printers, some artwork, etcetera. The women's bathroom was clean and in good condition. I stayed at this library for a few hours to read a book that I had brought with me. I did not check out any books. I felt happy with the cleanliness and comfort of the desks where I sat, and I appreciated that the other people were quiet.
