Upstream Coding

The modern web dev course has taught me alot in a short period of time. I entered this course knowing nothing about coding and had my first 2 websites built in the first 3 weeks.

Upstream Coding is a top notch business in the tech and coding industry. Being apart of both the Saturday and the 6 week workshop I find it phenomenal how the instructors deliver such high level information in a practical and applicable way. Coding can be intimidating to a newbie but the team is strong in providing you resources, making you feel that you can do it and walking you through step by step as well as exposing students to opportunities that show what life looks like as a professional developer. Ive been afforded opportunities I wouldnt have imagined through the upstream team!!! I HIGHLY recommend connecting and taking the journey with this team!!!

I am a self-taught programmer with most of my knowledge on the back-end writing Python scripts and was looking for a resource in which to learn more front-end development. While discussing this with a friend, he suggested I look into Upstream Coding, and it turned out to be EXACTLY what I was looking for. The coursework and classes are extremely personalized and set up for all skill levels, and the instructors are very personable and knowledgeable. There is a good mix of live presentations in conjunction with hands off working sessions where you can work on your own projects but consult the instructor and your classmates for guidance over a screen share. I enjoy the community aspect that Upstream Coding offers and look forward to continually developing my skills in such a supportive environment. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a similar experience and learning path.

My experience with Upstream has been nothing short of brilliant. I can't tell you how happy and surprised I was to have found this place. You get community, instructors who are not only current with industry but also skilled at teaching, a prime location in East Liberty if you want to attend classes in person, and the ability to follow the curriculum at your own pace. The way each "orbit" is structured is very well thought through; it allows people on same track but at different skill levels to learn together. You can go as fast or as slow as you want depending on how much you are able to commit to the classes. The learning environment is personal and very friendly. Class sizes are pretty small so you get a lot of individual attention. If you are willing to put in the work, Upstream provides community, instruction, and structure that can't be matched by online resources like Udemy or Codecademy. I highly recommend that you check out Upstream if you live in Pittsburgh and are interested in learning your first programming language, or even if you want learn a new language or brush up on your skills and meet local engineers.

I'm a self taught developer and I was learning on my own for like 2.5 years. I thought I had an excellent grasp of technologies like HTML and CSS but when I was invited for a trial session, I realized that I didn't know all the good practices and industry standards. If you are planning on getting a job in the industry, I would definitely advice you to join Upstreamcoding. Keep up the good work guys!
