My Field Trip to Colorado Springs was definitely on the bright side of things: no head wounds; spectacular view of the famous Mountain; post-testing excursions to Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, etc etc etc. The most memorable event was probably the first night (oftentimes it is). I had to stay late on the Test site and navigate back to the hotel on my own without any navigational aid. This was not planned and earlier in the morning I was not especially paying attention to the turns and twists as I was being taken to the Site. So, at night I found myself between the Rock[ies] and a hard place, Scylla and Charybdis, local police and bubonic plaque flea-infected prairie dogs. Local police as I was told could pull you over for doing just a mere couple of miles over 25 (I cannot not possibly imagine all the horrible things they would do to me for coasting through a Stop Sign!). Of course. there was also a danger to end up in a hard place at the wrong time (like life fire training, purely hypothetically speaking). Getting lost in general and/or traveling the wrong direction down a one way road was no fun prospective either. And having to give lengthy explanations however legit is not what you want after a long workday and mild jetlag. The worst part for me that the prairie dogs situation though. I was told they were under the aegis of PETA (and even the Site owner/operator treated PETA people with due respect I was told!). I cannot begin to fathom all the horrible things PETA would do to me for violating sanctity of these small cute creatures' burrows. All is well that ends well and in hindsight that was a rather hilarious little adventure. These were simpler times though...
