My husband and I mourned the loss of our favorite restaurant, The Carlton , when it closed during the pandemic . What restaurant would match the attention to detail in food quality, aesthetically pleasing food, service, and decorum? The answer is Vallozi's. I was served by Katie, who understood what wine would match my veal piccatta and my husband's veal strip. The food was cooked to perfection and was very aesthetically pleasing. We followed up our meal with a gluten-free chocolate cake and a glass of chambord liquor before going to The Pittsburgh Symphony. We found our new favorite restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous place The food was pretty good. The service was great. My only complaint is that the pork in the ravioli was a bit too salty for me and there was sardine slivers on my Caesar salad which I might have missed on them menu description, if it was on there.

'Vallozzis seems to me like a good Italian restaurant that used to be great. I took my daughter and granddaughter to Vallozzi's after a hockey game. We had a lovely meal. The restaurant was a little over 1/2 full at 7:00 on a Saturday, and we were seated promptly. Service was attentive and prompt. The food was all good, but not great. The bread service is a nice touch - soft, doughy, bread with ricotta and olive oil to dip/spread. I prefer a bread with some crust and "chew" but the rest of the table loved it. We had the tricolor salad to start. The lettuces/herbs were fresh and crisp, and the dressing tart with an interesting flavor. A hit for the table. My granddaughter ordered spaghetti with red sauce. The pasta was al dente, with loads of sauce. She loved it, but the sauce was too sweet for my liking. I had the pappardelle bolognese. The dish was tasty, but had way too much sauce for the amount of noodles. The bolognese sauce had a good mix of meat and mirepoix, but needed to cook down a lot more to be truly authentic. The pappardelle was perfectly cooked. My daughter had a filet with Gorgonzola sauce, asparagus, and cacio et pepe mashed potatoes. The steak was wonderful - large and perfectly medium rare. Delicious! My daughter ordered the sauce on the side since she was unsure about it. The steak was delicious without it. I tasted the sauce and it seemed like a basic cream sauce with just a hint of gorgonzola. Meh. The potatoes were tasty but very runny. The asparagus spears were the size of cigars ... no restaurant should serve anything but thin asparagus. This reminded me of the mushy stalks I had growing up. The wine list is large and well curated, and I enjoyed a lovely Chianti.

Atmosphere: three. Nothing exciting. The entrance is nice and the bar area with large window is decent. Larger part of restaurant is just an open room with tables. Outdated mural on one wall. Service Three: they were busy but our service wasnt great. I dont think they had enough waiters for the amount of folks there. Is what it is. Food Two (and this means it was edible but thats about it): This is where they get the least amount of stars. This is the second time Ive been here, the first was years ago and we forgot we had come here before. Found the place as available last minute reservation on OpenTable so booked it. When we walked in and recognized where we wereboth of us looked at each other and sighed. Food sucked last time, but hey maybe it will be better? No. No it wasnt. Focaccia was not great. Talia Cucinas foccacia is amazing compared to this. Clams as app: Disgusting, loaded with weird seasoning and tasted way too fishy. Swordfish, presentation was laughable, looked like it was microwaved on a pile of sh*t. Lemon chicken! This was the servers recommendation! It was two pieces of over cooked chicken thighs that had no lemon flavoring. It came with one lemon that was chargrilled but there was no actual lemon flavor. It tasted like fried chicken from a corner store. Never again.
