I was assigned a student dentist. From the moment I met him, I felt taken care of. He is caring, knowledgeable, and has great communication skills: always informing me of each step. I was able to ask him to call me when I was in pain and he made an excellent suggestion that I call for an urgent care visit at the school. I called urgent care and got an appointment in an hour from my phone call. It was miraculous this day from start to finish. Who knew severe tooth pain would bring me such a wonderful experience of collaboration and caring. Josie, the student dentist who saw me in urgent care is a miracle worker. I thought I would need root canal the pain was so intense. She and her professor went over the steps to uncover clues that would tell them what may be the cause and what may be a solution. Josie came up with a solution that gave me immediate relief. It was a miracle. The treatment took twenty minutes to relieve pain that I thought would never go away. Josie is patient, thorough and a blessing. She is knowledgeable about dentistry. She even reminded me of important follow-up care that when I implemented her recommendation gave me immediate help in at home tooth care. Thank you my student dentist for being so proactive in my dental care. Thank you Josie and all the professors who help make the dental students so well prepared. With love and gratitude, Esther

The students are very nice and friendly (any misinformation is not their fault), but the workers give out incorrect information that caused me to be in distress and a bill that was caught by surprise. I have the Upenn student dental insurance, and by logic it makes sense the Upenn dental school should take my insurance, apparently not. Not only that, all the workers I have been in contact with (simple cleaning, ortho initial consultation) have told me that with my student dental insurance, all my services with be covered. Just received a bill for my recent cleaning (that included an X-ray) as I thought would be covered. Ended up being charged for everything. After calling (had a conversation with the person on the phone who was extremely rude and talked to me as if I am stupid, when all I wanted was to clarify my questions and confusion as to why I received the bill), they finally informed me that my Penn student dental insurance is only good for appointments at the family practice. If I had known that, I would never have even gotten my cleaning done at the dental school! So now I am having to pay for a bill that I was under the impression was covered by my insurance. On top of that, I wanted to start invisalign treatment and already had an initial consultation on 9/18/23 with the Penn ortho clinic, had my second appointment scheduled almost two months later on 10/30/23, which is now all for nothing because I am having to start over again with the Penn family practice and my initial consultation is not until 12/4/23. Thank you Penn dental Medicine.
