Dias Ceramic Tile gives contractors a bad name. $23,000 Master-Bath remodel ruined by the owner, Antonio Dias.

Initially at my home for a tile estimate Antonio told me that he did full bath remodels. After receiving the estimate, Antonio was hired to do a Full Bath Remodel. We gutted the room, and he was replacing it all. Everything from drywall, trim to tile, painting, installing the vanity & mirror. As the job continued, the excuses began. He fell so far behind schedule it pushed back the electrician, plumber & shower door installer 3 separate times. They were all willing to come on a Saturday/Sunday to catch up but not Antonio. "I have family obligations" was his favorite line. Followed by "I'm lucky it's not hot out. I don't work in the heat". He told me his business network group meetings always come first. He then said, "it's not like I'm charging you when I'm not here".

The two main kickers...I work at home. I went upstairs at the end of one day and saw the back shower wall mostly done. It was obvious that from the shower floor halfway up, the wall was all bellied out. He said it was a small problem. When I asked what he could do about it he just said “nothing”. He blamed the house. As if I didn’t have a shower there before without any belly in it. This was the beginning of the end.

We discussed the niche layout again. I wanted the Schluter bar finish around all the edges. I asked this at the estimate. He assured me he used the Schluter system often. On the estimate sheet it stated bull nose tile. When I questioned him, he just said it was a mistake and not to worry. He did the Schluter around the outside of the shower (looks great) but for some reason he put it behind the tile in the niche. When I saw this, I was upset and strongly asked him why would he do that? That it looked terrible. All the raw edges and rough tile were exposed. He just stood there staring at me saying nothing.

There are many little things from that time on. He left the job without finishing the trim & door and had to be called back. All the time telling me he had a bad knee and was having surgery. I touched base with him several times and he repeatedly mentioned the knee surgery. I heard through the grapevine he was having a difficult recovery, so I didn't want to hound him to come do the repair. Texted, spoke and finally after almost a year said this is enough. You need to come fix this. He told me he didn't remember any of this. As I refreshed his memory, he still stated that none of this was familiar.

I didn’t want to go the legal route as that is not good for anyone. I filed with the Attorney General’s office. We wanted him to stand by his word and fix the niche properly as discussed. His response back was 95% lies. The only thing he didn’t lie about was that he was hired.

Amazing craftsmanship. Antonio does beautiful work. He has helped me with backsplash and tile in my bathroom, and both projects came out beautifully.
