The Chi Phi Fraternity, Zeta Chapter
Founded in 1854, the Zeta Chapter of the Chi Phi fraternity is the oldest fraternity at F&M.
Dubbsheim, the Chi Phi Fraternity House was Designed by Walter T. Karcher and Livingston Smith and built in 1928. It was named in honor of Joseph H. Dubbs, the first initiate of the chapter in 1854. As the first fraternity at F&M, Dubbs also holds the distinction of being the first F&M student initiated into a fraternity.
President Apple hoped that other fraternities would erect houses in a row extending from the Chi Phi house to Harrisburg Pike.
During World War II Dubbsheim served as a Navy hospital.
Chi Phi’s previous houses were located at 612 North Duke St. & 415 W. Jame St. In 1928 the Chi Phi fraternity Zeta chapter built “Dubbsheim" at 603 Race Avenue.
