On a recent trip home to Kennett, I was disappointed to see that Deron Kovac's partner was still in business. Kovac recommends superfluous, unnecessary procedures for insurance money. He is too incompetent of a dentist to execute the procedures correctly. Read the following story. When I was twelve, my family switched to Kovac from our long time dentist because his practice accepted our insurance. On the first or second visit, he recommended and scheduled a root canal. I had no symptoms and no pain. (I distinctly remember Kovac talking through his mask to his assistant during the procedure, right into my face, about someone quibbling with their wife over who gets the big screen TV during a divorce. Awful bedside manner.) Both before and after the procedure, I expressed my suspicion to my family, and refused to return to Kovac. As an adult, I would never have put up with that treatment. We returned to our old dentist, who reviewed the pre-root canal x-rays, and opined that the root had been healthy and the procedure was unnecessary. Too late. My next door neighbor had a similar experience at that time, and had been recommended multiple root canals within initial visits of Kovac. He would schedule superfluous root canals intentionally and systematically. My experience was not a fluke. Years later, in my early twenties in Boston, I began experiencing awful pain in the area of the molar that had been removed. I had a debilitating infection that was misdiagnosed as a sinus infection for months. It was so bad that I took time out of graduate school to recover. I eventually sought a dentist's opinion in case it was a tooth infection. Unprompted by me, the dentist in Boston asked if I had had a root canal before in my upper right molar. He showed me the x-rays of the molar, revealing that Kovac had only removed some of the root. He hadn't even performed the root canal competently. Kovac's shoddily executed, superfluous root canal had become infected ten years later. I would need to pay for a surgical procedure out of pocket to remove the rest of the infected root. I would have to drop out of grad school to work full time to pay off the surgery. Kovac cost me immense pain and thousands of dollars with his greed. There are plenty of good dentists in the Kennett area. Go somewhere else.
