Thank you Emily for taking the time to share your experience with other readers. In a world of the new we do things the very old way. "The trick is there are no tricks" is our motto. We have been recognized nationally and internationally for our wines made the way they were in Europe a 100 years ago. From dry farmed hillside sites to fermentation in our patented concrete fermenters and ageing of 2-5 years in traditional barrels as well as botti (400-1500 gallon cask we directly import from Italy) our wines reflect not only the vineyards from which they come, but integration and elegance that comes from true ageing. We spend all of our time just growing and crafting our wines and love to share our thoughts and experiences in Umpqua Valleys most educational guided tasting. Thank you Shelly for your visit and support of our family’s winery recently. Also, I want to thank you for your kind words about our “Great Reds”. I remember you saying that our Umpqua Ribera Tempranillo was the best you had ever had and it put a smile on my face. We do take incredible pride in what we do and try to apply the old world ways that we have learned from working in the wine industry on 4 continents. You are correct as well that our son has an understanding of wine beyond his age as he has spent over 25 years working here and in other wineries and vineyards in Europe. As you will understand, I’m sure, our son had to leave the tasting room after spending 45 minutes, one on one with you, as it is the middle of harvest and he was headed to crush the grapes we had brought in a short while earlier. My wife who took over from him and spent time one on one with you as well has worked in wine for over 3 decades so you were in good hands no doubt. The group you mentioned that I was hosting was a professional group that has been coming here for 7 years. You are correct that I opened a few extra bottles, not on the tasting list, as a professional courtesy, but my son poured these complimentary for you as well, even though you just came and wanted to enjoy a glass here with no tasting.
