I was quite surprised by their inventory. Great stuff for surprisingly cheap prices, especially in PDX. Nice selection of VHS too!, seems like they also release stuff on their own label straight to Tape, decent tunes on the stereo & they seem to be quite nice folks running it, not some snooty hipsters charging lame boutique prices. I shop at places all over the country & they have a good thing going. I'll definitely support them when in Portland!

Hollywood Babylon has an impressive selection of catered vintage at a reasonable price (comparative to other locations, some but not all pieces are comparable in price). The reason for a 3/5 review is due to the following: a dirty Kleenex inside the pocket of one of their jackets, selling pieces with undisclosed damaged for an incredibly inflated price, and the fact that the owner was standing at the register with his headphones in. Made it super hard to feel like you could approach him and ask questions or even address some of the concerns. I absolutely found pieces I loved, but I chose not to purchase because of the Kleenex situation in the first piece I looked at. This leads me to believe the clothing isn't properly inspected before being displayed. And the duster with the huge gash in the lining for nearly $70? I understand that vintage apparel is often sold as is, but that is agregious. Wasn't even listed on the tag (as damage sometimes is or should be IMHO). I'm really torn about this place because I want to love it, but I feel it's a location that I'd skip next time I intend to go shopping in the area.

A very special place in a special city that is slowly (or perhaps not-so-slowly...) shedding much of its charm. This cozy shop is a throwback to a better era and is owned by two fantastic people who have spent the last decade providing a genuinely unique space for Portland. From the unique decor, quality vintage pieces to the movie events and their alteration services, this is an old school community asset. Places like this are disappearing all over the country so I do my best to visit as much as I can. If you aren't familiar with this Hollywood shop, do yourself a favor and stop by.
