Its too bad they charge kids 13 and older a full adult rate after 5 and on weekends. Congrats to (other) gyms with youth rates who can actually make climbing more inclusive and accessible to community.

Definitely my favorite climbing gym of the dozen or so I've been to I'm a v4 climber with 1 year experience. These route setters are my favorite cause they hit the perfect balance of everything. There's a large variety of routes that are interesting, challenging, test different skills, safe, and above all fun. The gym is very clean, staff is awesome, there's a strong emphasis on safety. I love the music they play, the gym equipment is all in excellent condition, and the sauna is perfect for recovery.

Nice gym. Tons of space. Most of the easy routes (10- and below) are pretty basic jug hauls. They get better in the 11s range and up. Grades are a bit soft, even for a gym. No auto belays probably because the routes are pretty much on top of each other. People are really courteous though. Plenty of crack training available. Tons of blouldering available, though I haven't done much. Overall a pretty decent gym, would recommend.

The routesetting is good and the gym has a variety of terrain. The problems and routes here tend towards larger holds though of course there are some crimps too. The route climbing area has a good variety of cracks and this gym is much better than PRG for practicing crack climbing. The shop has one of the best selections of shoes in the area and unlike many others actually has most sizes in stock. The fitness area overall is very good and is basically a small conventional gym on its own with many machines and numerous barbell racks and pullup bars. Unfortunately, this gym has a number of annoyances. It gets very crowded during peak hours in the evening and sometimes it is even hard to find an open route to climb. It isn't bad if you go later in the evening but I prefer not to climb that late. They blast loud music constantly which is annoying if you only wanted to climb or simply hoped to preserve your eardrums. It also makes conversation more difficult. I wouldn't mind it so much if the volume was reasonable but it is always very loud. There are after school programs that result in a large number of barely supervised unruly kids running around the bouldering area. They stand under people who are climbing, take over and dominate sections of the wall, yell loudly, ignore safety guidelines and generally make bouldering unpleasant for everyone else in the gym. The gym doesn't assign enough employees to them to keep them under control. Rather surprisingly for the most expensive climbing gym in the Portland area, they are cheap about replacing inexpensive consumable equipment such as pullup bands. There are often not enough of these as they are always breaking and the gym doesn't replace them promptly. This results in shortages and sometimes you can't get the size that you want. They added a "comp wall" recently in the bouldering area. Some like it but for me it's a downside as I don't much care for comp-style problems so for me it reduces the usable space in the bouldering area (which is already fairly small compared to other local rock gyms).

I love Movement. The bouldering, top rope, and lead are on point. The sauna is a great amenity. And last but not least the staff are outstandingly friendly and cool people who are into what they do. I appreciate having a place for healthy community in the neighborhood. Only thing I would mention is that the street parking has gotten progressively a little sketchier I know theres not a lot you can do but hey, you have to know what youre doing in downtown Portland.

Hey Sergie,We offer discounts on student memberships at all times! We value both our members and guests but in an effort to reduce crowding during our busy times, we offer the student discount during the times you mention. We also have plenty of other ways to grab discounts such as through our affinity groups such as Queer Mountaineers, QTBIPOC, and Rock and Run. In addition, we work with individuals that reach out to us for discounted or free gym access!

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We're glad you enjoy our gym. We replace our pullup bands and fitness accessories periodically and maintain specific coach-to-child ratios in our programs. In addition, feel free to ask our team to lower the music volume / change the music!
