Brilliant training ground AND playground! David is wonderful. This class invites people to let go, to play, and to become aware on a deeper level that not only makes you a better performer (no matter what kind of performance you do) but it also makes you more aware, present, and confident in other aspects of life! And its FUN!

David and Mary Pat are both incredible instructors! If you join a class here, youll get tons of playtime, tons of coaching, and tons of highly individual feedback (both real-time and end-of-cycle). Plus you get to have fun and stretch your mind with a friendly crew in a supportive environment on a weekly basis!

I've really enjoyed these improv classes. It's so fun to have time to simply play with other adults, and learn to create something fun together. You build a sense of community while learning to tell engaging stories. The teachers are great, experienced, encouraging. I highly recommend CTP.

The faculty are knowlegable and respectful. The mutual nature of the work was consistent. The fun was contageous. I would recommend this class to any friend with a love of theater and a desire to communicate creatively. I feel that this class has helped me to grow as a performer. As a retired CEO, I also can endorse this organization to assist in team building and organizational creativity.

I took the beginning class and LOVED it! I was hesitant at 1st to try yet intrigued so, I enrolled and it was a fantastic decision! The teacher's teaching style/method, the class curriculum and the wonderful atmosphere created really made a difference in my ability to let go and just be me. Monday nights were a huge highlight of my week, and I always looked forward to class. I learned more than just Improv from participating, and I am grateful for the experience. David has a gift for reading people and knowing where to meet them and push them as well as support them in where they are. I also appreciate his ability to redo and rethink on the fly when things change, like who shows up.. or doesn't. Do yourself a favor and TAKE A CLASS! It will help you learn to listen and communicate better ...Even if you decide to take only 1 series! DO IT! YES!!! UPDATE: Nov. 5, 2023: I've lost count of how many classes I've taken at Change Through Play AND I can tell you that I have loved them all. Mary Pat and David are amazing teachers that make me feel so supported and encouraged. Even though I was nervous about it, tonight, I performed with 4 other classmates for the 1st time on stage with an audience! I really did make changes in my life and found more JOY in life. I love getting to continue to grow and explore improv with an amazing teacher. Give it a go or keep working on your skills and enliven your life!

About
Change Through Play Improv & Acting Studio

We one of only two studios in Portland that specialize in training both performers and NON-performers. We do this by using established exercises and games from the worlds of theater, improvisation, & psychology. For performers, we anchor our work in creating organic, real connections on the stage during our improv classes in Portland. For corporate clients, we train managers, directors, and teams to be better communicators and creative collaborators using applied improvisation or process-oriented improv. We also provide coaching for Founders, CEOs, and Directors who make public appearances on stage and TV. We’ve trained staff at Nike, Intel, Tektronix, Applied Materials, Comcast, PSU, and other local Stumptown businesses.
