image This was 2019 but since I am pregnant again I want to share why I will not return to the Providence midwives, or Providence at all. Everything was fine during the pregnancy. Some midwives were kinder and took the time to talk with you, some had an air of dismissiveness. But the ball was dropped during labor. I called the clinic twice, explained my contractions and symptoms. But since I sounded so calm I was told keep laboring at home. She, the midwife on call, really wasnt trying to figure me out. Again with the dismissive attitude. Well, I gave birth to my baby alone in an empty bathtub. No apologies from the providers. I racked up a $3000 ambulance bill as a result, and when I asked the hospital for help paying their response was no- these things happen.

image I come to the clinic solely for preventative care, but I can say that having Dr. Butler as my MD has been a wonderful experience. Previously I had seen a male OB/GYN who was clearly very old-school. Dr. Butler is extremely down to earth, and has made me feel comfortable and empowered during all my visits. On my first visit to her I told her that I was refusing to get hormonal birth control, and she was the first doctor I'd seen who was willing to work with me to try out the non-hormonal IUD (after disclosing the potential risks). She's wonderful!

image I had two pregnancies through this clinic in the past 10 years and I absolutely can't recommend them enough. The midwives were amazing to me although both of my pregnancies ended in emergency c sections. I could not be more thankful for my experiences here! I wish they could be my primary care!

image Dr Bulter was inconsiderate and unprofessional. She entered room with the comment to a third time miscarriage patient "I know you wish you were pregnant". Then lied about the dangers of surgery to avoid doing a procedure that was necessary. Not getting proper treatment lead to loosing a left fallopian tube. Then when I contacted the clinic I was told doctors only listen to their medial opinion if patients show emotions.

image I have been going to this clinic for a little over two-three months for Pre-Natal care. I dont usually make reviews, but as I get older, I look to reviews for the best experience and Im sure someone will want to know my experience with this clinic, especially as a woman of color.
My first appointment with this clinic was great. Initially, I loved my provider. I was happy with how quickly I got in, the service and how fast I was able to get reoccurring appointments set.
After I started care with them, I wanted maternal counseling, so they referred me to Kara Johansen. I spoke with her for an hour appointment (where I spoke about my concerns and personal matters while she made it seem liked she was dedicated to helping and listening,) only til the next appointment, I showed up to her being completely unprepared; she kept having to check her notes to verify what we spoke about previously, had me re-answering questions she already asked, didnt respond after I would finish sentences or would stare awkwardly after I would response and questioned my appearance in comparison to my MyChart profile photo. Also, when I confirmed it was me, she asked if I was sure? I had an issue with this and presented it to the staff, both in-person and through MyChart, to where I was sent referrals from Devin Vinson to programs that provide culturally sensitive care for the African American community. When I responded noting that I was offended, also asking how that pertained to what my original complaint, and if they had only referred programs for African Americans because I was black, I was ignored.
I asked them to have a director or higher management call me, but they read my messages through the MyChart portal, ignored it and at my next appointment tried to get me to talk to the same woman who I noted had offended me. At that point, I did not request a conversation with Devin and especially did not want to speak to her after my medical team ignored me through the portal, but I agreed.
Today I arrive to my appointment ahead of time; they get me into a room and then proceed to tell me my doctor is going to be late. Usually, I dont mind, but this has been a reoccurrence with their doctors. I work full time and schedule around that. Ive mentioned that to them as well, but unfortunately they do not accommodate that.
When I arrive at some of my appointments, they usually have me in the waiting room 10-15 minutes past my appointment time. After that, I am waiting in the room for another 15 minutes after my appointment time.
I am assuming that the doctors and nurse fail to communicate with one another because it is so unorganized there.
When or if you have serious medical concerns, they will respond with false positivity or downplay your symptoms. Every issue Ive had, Ive had no alternative test done. My original OB left on vacay or switched practices and they did nothing to inform me ahead of time, I was just expected to see a new provider no communication whatsoever. No one has kept track of my genetic testing, paid attention to my medical history nor taken me seriously in any aspect. Today was my last straw, hence this review.
Everything about this place, outside of the reception staff, is unprofessional and unorganized. If you are a woman of color, this clinic will not take you seriously nor will your needs be met with care and concern. Avoid the stress and find care elsewhere please. Hopefully they do better in the future as I have chosen to receive care elsewhere.
