The volunteers and staff of Portland Rescue Mission are genuine and kind people who have put their best efforts into helping those in need. It is thanks in part to this group that I've achieved a healthy weight for the first time in my life after a lifetime of struggle. The breakfasts are supportive and robust, and the dinners are hearty, followed by a delicious and warming dessert. It can be very difficult when you're outdoors to prepare a meal for yourself, even if you do manage to get Foodstamps, so having access to a warm meal and safety from the rain makes such a difference. Perhaps even the most helpful in my case is that they provide access to toilets, and they're open most of the day, so if you don't feel like braving the city porta potties, this is a safe place for you to find relief! Special thanks goes to the hero who gave me a jacket when I was freezing, and kudos to Brother Mark, who is caring and ensures that I'm comfortable as I eat, taking my plate when I'm done so I don't need to worry.
