Umpqua Bank

I am conflicted about Umpqua bank. On the one hand, they are always super friendly and easy to deal with. I even had a mortgage with them at one point and they were amazing throughout the house buying process. On the other hand they only pay 0.01% on savings and offer very sub par CD rates. They are easily earning 4% or more from my deposits with the current fed funds rate. I recently moved my entire savings to a combination of high interest savings and treasuries, but would love to move it back to umpqua if they offer competitive rates. I also noticed that they only have branches in affluent parts of Portland which is odd.

Umpqua Bank is great when you are in the bank face to face, but their online banking is horrible. It amost seems like they don't want you to make extra payments on loans. They make it incredibly hard. In fact, I haven't figured out how t do it yet. And forget trying to get them on the phone. Believe me, I will never bank here again.

I am so impressed with the fantastic customer service provided by this small, friendly bank in the Sellwood area of Portland! Today I redeemed a large U.S. Treasury Series EE Bond at this branch with their representative, Andrew Sorenson. I could not have had a better, more positive experience! This gentleman was efficient, courteous and helpful in so many ways! It was refreshing to find true customer service in these challenging and trying times! My last attempt at redeeming a bond like this was at my primary bank (U.S. National for some 60 years!) who no longer will redeem bonds for their customers. Instead they encourage you to send them to the US Treasury who now want 13 weeks to redeem! Umpqua is still putting their customer service up front ahead of any greedy profit motives that seem to be quite apparent at U.S. BankKudos to the Umpqua team and their rep, Andrew Sorenson! Thank You.
