Before you tour here be aware, some of the 'two bedroom' places they advertise have no windows in the second bedroom. Not sure what the tenant is supposed to do if there's a fire while they are sleeping, just burn I guess.

I am relocating from Dallas to Portland in two months. I recently flew out to Portland to tour potential apartments. I contacted the Garthwick and was told I could not tour their apartments because my move in date was not within 3 weeks. Im sorry what!? I have never heard of this before. People have to give 30 days notice to move out so how does this even make sense? I explained that I wouldnt be back in Portland before I moved so I just wanted to tour an apartment and if something became available with my move in dates then I would sign a lease. Nope, apparently I couldnt even be entered into their system because my move in date was too far out, therefore I couldnt tour. Insane.

Since the manager named Nick has take over everything has gone down hill. The building is neglected and although we pay too dollar rents for months the security system has been broken and anyone can walk in off the streets into the building. Fortunately none of my packages have been stolen, I have seen evidence that other peoples have been stolen and the wrappings left empty in the parking garage. Do yourself a favor and do not move in here until they get a manager who cares again .

The apartments look really nice but don't be fooled, living there is like camping in a tent. There is no insulation to speak of -you freeze in the winter and fry in the summer. There are small heaters in each room ( like the ones you would expect to see in the bathroom )which do not do the job. But, when we used a space heater we tripped the breaker. All appliances are electric but the apartment is not wired to handle the electricity needed to keep the inhabitants comfortable. The neighborhood is great but I would look elsewhere, especially at that price.point.

Hello Joe,I’m sorry to hear you were unhappy here at The Garthwick. The builder did 3x code for insulation to improve comfort and noise control.Cadet heaters are quite common in apartment communities and allows temperature control in each room.I understand your frustration regarding the breaker ,and apologize for the inconvenience and trouble this has caused. Unfortunately space heaters pull a lot of power, therefore it is common for them to trip the breaker.I reside in the unit you previously occupied, and have yet to have any issues. Once again, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience causedTake care,Megan GalsterCommunity Manager
