This has been really hard, all of it. Never before have I seen my child suffer to these extremes. As a parent, I feel for her. Covid has made visits impossible, so its been the longest I've gone without hugging my daughter. She there for attempted suicide, and I could never look forward to another hug if she were successful. No matter how mad she is at me for keeping her at Willamette...she's alive to be mad at me. In its entirety, I feel this facility has ultimately made a positive impact on my daughter, 13. She's still alive, and willing to do groups and work exercises. So blessed! Although, I do have to voice some concerns. A medication change in Willamette after a medication change in the ED (referred by her psychiatrist) was frustrating. I don't feel they should go above her local teams recent recommendations without giving the new meds time, in a secured environment, to see its effects; or by having a new elaborate evaluation to make their own determinations. Also, at our first meeting, her doctor at Willamette spoke of releasing her home. In the same conversation expressed her continued suicidal ideation, no interest in living past 21, with no real plan but confirmed she will keep attempting suicide till she gets it rite. I asked if releasing her home really sounded like the safest course for her. I also expressed that I wouldn't abandon my child, but I couldn't in good conscience sign her out without checking off all necessary boxes. Greatfuly, her referral for residential was made shortly after. (Tho reading Corvallis Farm Home reviews, I will exercise my rite to consider all options that would best fit my daughter.) The stakes are too high to get this wrong. I was told by the doc, that traumas like domestic violence or issues with her relationships aren't worked on there, the stay is meant for stabilization. He spoke to her asking to work through things with her dad. She's asking for what she needs to stabilize. Then, I was told her local team will be able to work through that with her. I signed mutual exchange, release of information on the first day for her home support team of therapists, peer support, mentors, and skills trainers to continue care and keep those relationships strong... they have yet to facilitate her continued relationships for release. I asked 8 or 9 times to zoom so I could see my child. It took refusing a team meeting appointment and calling the charge nurse that day, to get an awkward zoom so I could see her face, since I can't visit to really check in. Our family facilitator also gave us a chance to zoom with better quality picture and sound. Our family facilitator/coordinator has no direct number, so communication was difficult by phone. She needs her own company cell so she can best facilitate. We rely on these resources. All that being said, I appreciate everyone at this facility and all they're doing for our children and their future. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in our youth 15-24, This is only surpassed by accidents, and followed by homicide. In my opinion, some of these accidents and these homicides are also consequence of a decades old issue with mental health resources. Mental health is a serious issue, tell your friends. Always advocate for your loved ones especially when they can't.
