Fantastic and compassionate staff, wonderful residents, and a truly remarkable place to work. Kudos for a facility that cares inside and out.

Bonaventure has been great for my father! The staff knows everyone by name and goes out of their way to say hello. Debbie and the entire staff are top notch!

I'm writing this review after getting a brief look from the inside of how Bonaventure of Medford operates. I recently accepted a position and attended an all-day New Employee Orientation to see for myself exactly what goes on behind the scenes of a Senior Living site such as this. Retired now, yet having worked for a Social Services agency within the government for 30+ years, I have a strong understanding of what a positive work environment and good management should and shouldn't look like. Unfortunately, Bonaventure failed on many levels. During orientation, I observed management to be unorganized, self-righteous, and undermining toward the employees coming on board at Bontaventure. However, what was most alarming to me was their sick leave policy. It was made abundantly clear to everyone in that room, just exactly what their policy entailed. We were told that "testing positive to COVID was no longer a valid excuse for calling in sick, and if we had COVID, we'd better grab a box of tissue and come to work, regardless." It was also explained to us that COVID is now considered nothing more than a "common cold." What??? The elderly (such as every resident here at this facility), along with other unique vulnerable groups, are still considered to be high risk. That's a fact, and I have no idea where they're getting this information, but I found these statements disturbing. Having employees show up to work sick (especially with COVID) is simply reckless behavior. Particularly at a senior facility around those most vulnerable. Also concerning was the fact that someone in the group, who had already been working there for a short time, mentioned that the facility was undergoing some sort of investigation. This uncomfortable discussion took place while the training manager was out of the room. At the end of the day, my overall impression of this facility was far below my expectations. The philosophy that I clung to my entire career was to put family and health above work. This invites balance that leads to less stress, better productivity, and a higher well-being. However, after a mere seven hours of orientation, it was abundantly clear that this sort of toxic working environment is nothing I'd ever want to subject myself to. I understand now why there's such a high turnover of staff at this facility, along with hundreds of 1 star reviews from other employees.

We moved Dad from another facility over to Memory Care at Bonaventure a month ago. Prior to the move-in, family members joined ne a few times so they could check it out & both see & feel the difference between this & the prior facility. Not all our visits were announced. Everyone in our family was impressed with everything. We noticed right away the MC unit didnt stink, as some do. We all felt the warmth and care Ilene, Lala and the staff showed the residents. The MedTechs & Caretakers are all amazing. They show great patience & understanding in dealing with those suffering with Alzheimers/Dementia. We were happy Dad didnt have an extreme set-back w/his move. He is actually spending time out of his room & interacting with others. Music is big, which Dad enjoys. Some staff make a point of dancing with him if he is listening to music in his room, & he gets a total kick out of that. They are quick to learn his likes/dislikes, which is helpful. Mealtimes arent dreaded anymore-he is picky but seems to like most of it. My son accompanied him to dinner (not to eat, but to be w/him); my so was unexpectedly asked if he would like (unexpectedly, as it is not the norm to eat unless prearranged) to actually eat the same food - he came home raving about how much better it was than the previous place! And Dad gets his food faster-no 45 minute waits as he watches others getting served. We were really happy to hear that as Dad was previously losing weight. They make sure he gets 3 Ensures a day, which Dad loves. Communication is great - everyone is willing and able to ask or answer questions, & will call me if there is an issue that needs to be addressed. Jennifer, Debbie and Liza have always been helpful, engaging, & patient with me in arranging Dads move. No matter how many times I bug them w/ worries & questions, they remain friendly & patient. And they remember our names!! They invited me to a talk for family members on remembering Selfcare - it was an eye-opener for me & my family. Again, we cant say enough about the entire staff, including the house keepers (never a frown). We are happy and relieved to have found him quality care and surroundings!

Business Response on Google Aug 13th, 2023
Debbie, we're sorry to see you left such a review. You are right, we take our resident care extremely seriously. And that means we have high expectations for our team, which includes coming to work on the days they are scheduled. "Illness" is often used as a reason for calling out. That is why we have an attendance policy that allows employees to call out for any reason, including illness, but there are limitations. What we do not have tolerance for is employees who do not show up for their scheduled shift and fail to notify their supervisor. As I'm sure everyone can appreciate, this is a senior living community that takes care of residents in both Assisted Living and Memory Care settings. If employees fail to show up, the residents are the ones who suffer and that is not something that we can allow. While we won't get into the details around your employment for your privacy, we do wish you the best in your future endeavors.
