Jeremy, my instructor was awesome! We had a great time windsurfing back and forth and connected on a social level as well. It made the experience that much more fun. The hook is so safe to learn in, my progress skyrocketed without any stress. His lesson took me from beginner to intermediate, riding upwind and gybing much better than before, and occasionally even tacking! Katie managing the equipment was great too. The next day she rented to me and was very nice and accommodating! Overall, I had an amazing experience.

This review is regarding the Windsurfing classes and rentals. The store itself is great, but at a different location in town. I can't recommend highly enough taking some windsurfing classes. I think that even if you're out of shape, like I was, it's possible to get up on a board and at the very least, get going in a straight line within 1 session of lessons. If you take 2 sessions, I think you should have the hang of doing a turn upwind and downwind as well. Taba was our instructor and I couldn't have asked for a better beginner teacher. Super easy going, nice, but sticking to the point with where he's trying to get you on the windsurf boards. Highest recommend for Taba. The equipment rental is nice. Some of the equipment is showing some wear & tear, so in particular if the boom of the sail is bare, ask for a different board or sail with the foam piece intact. My boom was bare and my hands & fingers got ripped up a bit holding on to the sail. I didn't realize until after the lesson. I learned that the boom should have some padding. Perfect convenience if you're just going to rent a board for a couple hours. No transportation of the stuff, you just grab a board on the beach, and away you go. The hook does get busy with other classes and public windsurfers. You don't want to go from not knowing windsurfing to renting one by yourself without a lesson, no matter how much youtube you've watched. Take a lesson for your own safety and the safety of those around you. The hook does not suffer weak winds. It's a nice baby step on the way to full wind, full exposure out on the columbia, but it's far safer. If you zoom in a straight line in any direction, unable to turn, and forget to drop your sail, you'll beach on either sand or mud. In the middle it's deep enough, and there are weeds enough to grab your legs, that you'll want a life vest unless you're a very strong swimmer.
