I reached out online to the Tonkin chat about a Kia Niro EV about a month before I planned to drive up from Eugene to shop. I had one main question about the ability of the dealer to take the federal and state refunds at time of sale. I got responses from multiple phone numbers asking me questions but I had to ask my initial question several times to get an answer. As it got closer to me heading up to Portland I asked which Tonkin dealer I should go to. For whatever reason the multiple people I was dealing with were out of Gresham. They told me I could shop for the Niros across the Tonkin dealerships from there and they scheduled a time for me to come by. I didnt fully understand online where each individual car was so I figured Id just stick to that scheduled time in Gresham. When I drive all the way to Gresham I find out they only have 1 Niro and it has more miles on it than I was comfortable with. By that time they had the keys to my trade-in as they were evaluating it. I told the salesperson I wasnt interested in the car they had and asked for my keys so I could leave and go to another Tonkin with more selection. It took several times asking for him to finally give me my keys. It was an awful and frankly, creepy experience. I made it clear I didnt want the car but he insisted I test drive it and was super pushy. All of the stereotypical salesperson stuff but way beyond. In all they wasted like 3 hours of my time with driving across Portland and sitting in the waiting room while they played their stupid game of trying to stall me into submission. A bit long-winded but I felt I needed to share. PS-They didnt know the federal rebate could be taken off at time of sale. They really didnt know much at all about the rebates really.
