    I went in for my yearly wellness checkup and got charged over $500 for lab work that was coded as though I went in for a sick visit and my husband was incorrectly charged over $200. When I first got my bill I left several messages with Patient Experience and never got a return call. I spoke with a lady in billing who sent me detailed copies of the charges where I saw the coding was different from my husbands for his physical. We had the exact same tests done but his were coded correctly by the same PA, who strangely enough, no longer worked there shortly after I started complaining. I finally got transferred to the manager of Patient Experience who told me she was assigning my case to Holly and that Holly would contact me within a week. That never happened. Not that week, not that month. Never. On MyChart, my bill went to $0, so I thought it had all been taken care of. A month or so later, my bill was back to $562. I got no calls, no texts, no emails. I called the manager back, who told me there was nothing she could do because of the coding, even though I went in for a wellness checkup that should have been covered under ACA guidelines. I explained that I advised the PA and the lab technician that I only wanted lab work that was covered by ACA. She told me I should have checked it myself before I had the lab work done. In other words, she told my I should not trust her staff. That was my first and last trip to Grand Ronde Clinic. I have never had a doctor charge me for a yearly physical since the new ACA guidelines went into effect. I urge you to check the coding on your bloodwork before you have it done. Your provider should care about you and your expenses, but sadly, not all do.
