SMART Reading

SMART Reading Central Oregon is a remarkably well-managed organization that clearly improves the lives of young children by pairing adults with students as part of a partnership with Central Oregon public schools. Not all schools have signed up for SMART Reading, which is unfortunate, because this program is extremely valuable. An adult not only reads with or to a child, students enrolled in the program are also given free books. The experience of being read with and to is not available to all children, particularly during the pandemic. I urge those who care about childhood literacy to give financial support SMART Reading. Of equal importance is that Central Oregon adults volunteer for this worthwhile program.
