We purchased cabinets for our new kitchen and bathrooms from Larry and Angel Haynie of Big Larry Designs. I have contracted with multitude of vendors throughout my 35 years of general contracting and remodeling and have never felt compelled to write a bad review. Big Larry Designs & the Haynies are, by far, the worst vendor/owners I have ever done business with. That said, I do take some responsibility for the issues, as I broke my own #1 rule: NEVER, NEVER, EVER, pay a vendor in full for their product prior to delivery, especially when that product is delivered months out. A deposit is fine, full payment is a HUGE mistake. A full payment requirement puts the buyer at a distinct disadvantage when problems arise, and problems will arise. A paid in full vendor has no skin in the game to communicate, keep commitments, and solve issues. (Additionally, Big Larry Designs, according to their website, requires a nonrefundable design fee of $500. We never paid this fee, it wasnt discussed. You dont need to pay this design fee to any vendor as there are plenty of cabinet companies that will help you with the design for the opportunity to sell you cabinets). At the time of our order, the full payment issue was discussed at length. Larry convinced me that with his years of cabinet experience, his integrity, his commitment, and his problem solving abilities, any problems will not be an issue. After completion of our order, communication was far less than desirable, delivery & install commitments were not kept, and I had to solve problems. I should have stood firm on rule #1, as there was no help from the Haynies. Why, because they were paid in full and had no risk, nothing to lose. The cabinet manufacturer had an equipment failure one week prior to shipping our cabinets that was going to result in a significant shipping delay. When I was notified of this delay by the Haynies, I replied that this was not acceptable and requested a remedy. I never heard from the Haynies for 5 days. Why, because they were paid in full and had nothing to lose. In that 5 day timeframe, I contacted the cabinet manufacturer via phone and email to come up with a remedy and solve this issue. After pleading my case of hardship in rescheduling several other trades that follow cabinets and additional costs that I would incur, the manufacturers rep informed me that they would get the cabinets out ASAP, hopefully within a week. When I finally did hear from the Haynies, they committed to me that if the cabinets did show up within that time frame, they would have an installer hold time open for a speedy install. The cabinets showed up as promised by the manufacturer and were ready for install. The Haynies informed me that they could not keep the install date commitment. I had to solve this issue by interviewing and contracting with a cabinet installer. The cabinets were installed within days of arriving, with no help from the Haynies. After install, I informed the Haynies of numerous issues with their incorrect design, resulting in some cabinets being the wrong size and not operable, a cabinet off center, drawers scraping the adjacent cabinet, plus some tedious issues. After several emails, the Haynies finally agreed to address their faulty design issues and supply cabinets to replace the inoperable and off center cabinets. However, they made it clear that the labor cost to remove the bad cabinets and install the new cabinets is another problem expense they wont cover. I fixed the scraping drawers and some of tedious issues, the Haynies never even looked at these problems. The other issues that are remaining, we will just have to live with. Needless to say, I will always stick to rule #1 by NEVER, EVER paying a vendor in full, no matter how convincing the sales person is. And, because the Haynies did not live up to their boastful experience, integrity, commitments and problem solving abilities on our transaction, I certainly would not recommend the Haynies and Big Larry Designs.
