I brought my 13 year old son to his appointment. He was extremely escalated when we arrived and he was attacking me. Someone came out to lock the front door to keep him from running, which was helpful. However, my son continued to attack me by pinching me and trying to bite me. I was trying to get to my purse so I could get him contained but it was difficult as he continued to attack me. I am bruised all over my left arm from his attacks. I am sure that me trying to contain him may have looked like I was being rough with him, but it is absolutely necessary to contain him. Not one single person in the autism clinic came to try to help deescalate the situation. Not a single person tried to help in any way. By the time I got him contained, I was in tears. We left and managed to get home safely. After I got home, DHS came by with a report that I had punched my son in his head. I explained to the worker what had happened and he asked why no one at the clinic tried to stop the situation or help. He checked my son and saw no bruising, all of the bruises are on me. I feel completely betrayed. it's not that they called dhs, that's really just par for the course. it is that they, an autism clinic, did not try to help myself or my son in our worst moment that was happening in their waiting area. They watched my son attack me in their waiting area and did nothing to try to help either one of us. I certainly would expect for a clinic that specializes in autism to have a plan in place to help deescalate patients during a meltdown. I don't think they really care about their patients much honestly, it's been a week and I didn't cancel his appt for today and no one has called or texted to check on him. I also want to add that the dhs worker who came said that they made it seem as if I was just really beating my son, which isn't true at all. He even stated that they should have tried to help especially since they are an autism clinic. I don't think anyone can really understand severe autism unless they live with it everyday, but they could have tried to help. I was really excited about my son doing S2C and he was progressing up until this incident. Update: It's been 2 months and no one has even called to check on him. I really thought this was a great place but they just dropped my son like he never even mattered.

My son is a non-speaker with Autism and Apraxia. I had heard about spelling to communicate through a podcast and was so glad to find practitioners here in Oklahoma. We started coming here a little over a year ago. Torrie and Stephanie are so unwavering in their commitment to making sure access to communication is available for individuals like my son. Presuming competence is the key and they are the key-masters! There is no doubt they believe in their clients and that is everything. GPAC is such a safe environment and the staff is so open to supporting these guys! Lori, the director, is just fabulous and helpful, always advocating for the clients. Lori, Torrie, and Stephanie really have worked so hard and have created the best space for my son and others like him. We need a 10 star category because that's they where they belong!
