Jane is an amazing positive based trainer. She also teaches how to recognize body language which is very important in building strong relationships and understanding with your companion, also the stress reduction techniques she teaches are a invaluable tool to reduce stress for you and your dog. I had the great pleasure of working and learning from Jane for over a year and if possible I would give her six stars. She is great!

I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with Ms. Jane Miller, founder of Healing Companions, since 2016. When I met Jane, I was immediately impressed by her dedication to mental health through social work practice, her deep knowledge of holistic approaches to healing and the transformational healing power of animals, including psychiatric service dogs (PSD). As a fellow clinician (and advocate for people and animals), I deeply admire Jane's commitment to caring for clients, educating fellow professionals, and sharing her knowledge with all who embrace the important work of psychiatric service dogs. Jane's passion for her calling shines through her leadership of Healing Companions. Jane works tirelessly to find and save canines who are in need of homes, raise funds to train these dogs as psychiatric service dogs, and connect with clients who may benefit from partnering with a PSD. Jane exemplifies compassion for both human and canines in need. It's a privilege to know Jane and to witness the outcomes of her efforts. I look forward to continuing to support Healing Companions and hope Jane continues her important work in the spirit of healing and the service of those who so need her help.

Jane helped me understand my rescue dogs behaviors. She helped me change my approach with Belle. Its easier to understand where her barking and fear is coming from now. Ive seen improvement but know we still have a work to do.

I payed the $50 and applied and was understanding that thered be no fees untill I completed the program. Just to get approved to be told I had to pay another $200 to be psychoanalyzed and I already had the documentation from my own psychiatrist that a dog would be beneficial for me. And that it would be $100 every week for the next 18 to 24 months. So don't waste your money if you can't afford this because they fail to to tell you how much it really will cost. And the lady who called me everytime I would start to talk to try to explain myself she would be rude and talk over me instead of just listening and she calls herself quotes a psychoanalyst.

To be short; the woman who runs this program is rude and unprofessional, does not behave like a therapist, and costs are very high for short, confusing training sessions. A detailed incident: I was very briefly a client of Jane's along with my puggle Marvin. From the beginning I had a suspicion that much of her kindness towards me was superficial, that she was not presenting her true self, and in truth she was more interested in my father's (who helps me with travel and finances as I am unable) money and in my dog. I sadly had to miss two appointments on short notice because I am bipolar and I had entered into an aggressive depressive episode. Upon my canceling of that second appointment my father received a very aggressive phone call from Jane (which I, in my less-than-tip-top-shape, could hear) where she demanded that I be present the next day despite lacking transport. I understand that this takes commitment, but I also need to continue to look after my own mental health lest I spiral further. We were and are very willing to pay for those missed appointments. When my father explained it simply wasn't possible for me to be there she then began to demand very loudly that we owed her a check for 300 dollars. In fact we only owed her 200, 100 for each missed appointment. My father hung up because at that point she was shouting, and it was clear nothing productive would come of the conversation. We have paid her the 200 dollars we owe, and mailed back the book she allowed me to borrow but we will not be utilizing her counseling or dog training services again. She was not sensitive to my invisible disability. And when it comes down to it she is much more a dog trainer than a therapist. I feel a job like this one requires her to balance both professions. All of this is sad to say, because I really wanted this to work out, and I did meet my wonderful dog because of her services. But she has shown us her true colors, and they are not colors of compassion towards the mentally ill. This whole situation is causing undue stress for me, which feels counterproductive towards the concept of Healing Companions. I will be looking into other options for myself and Marvin. Please think twice before utilizing the services of Healing Companions Inc.

Thank you so much. It was such a pleasure working with you and remaining in touch through the years. I am so grateful to you for how beautifully you grasped the joy of respecting and working with dogs. It was so wonderful to watch you pick up so rapidly what the dog was responding to based on their body language and how to help them cope with situations calmly. With gratitude, jane

We are sorry to hear you had a bad experience with us. It appears from your review that you did not understand the program or it’s costs. Our website very clearly states: “Our psychiatric service dogs have helped those with mental illness take their lives back. But the amount of time and work required to train our dogs is much higher than most people would ever imagine. It takes 18-24 months and up to $20,000 to fully train a psychiatric service dog to be ready to live with and assist a client. Throughout this process, there is an ongoing need for food, equipment and veterinary care, as well as the highly specialized, one-on-one training psychiatric service dogs require.“We are unable to train for free. We fundraise as much as possible to defray some of the costs but folks, who choose to use our service, need to know up front what they are committing to both in time and expenses. Based on experience, pay as you go is the best since it helps in budgeting for both the client and the program. Our Executive Director, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker not a Psychoanalyst. We screen candidates in a particular way to try to make sure the animal and the client will be compatible and that the person qualifies under the ADA as severely limited in their ability to function due to their mental illness. Then so we can start the Psychiatric Service Dog In Training. Most of our clients come to us with recommendations from their personal therapists but that doesn’t change our process since our focus is very different in assessing whether or not you qualify under the ADA for a psychiatric service dog. We hope this answers your concerns and wish you success in your search for the right program.

I am sorry we parted badly. I remember you and your little dog Marvin that we helped you adopt. I was really hoping to be able to help you and was excited about the match. Unfortunately, we are unable to train for free and I thought I was clear about the costs. If not, I do apologize. We have clear rules and guidelines regarding training for a reason including the need for you to be available weekly and not miss your sessions. We’ve worked with folks with a variety of Psychiatric issues and understand it isn’t always easy. Training of a Psychiatric Service Dog is an intense process. If the dog does not attend sessions with you on a regular basis (weekly) the training gains can be lost and stretch out the time needed to complete also resulting in higher costs for you.Missed appointments without a reasonable notice means we lose time. We ask that everyone cancel with a reasonable amount of notice so someone else who may have been waiting can use the time. I am glad you have Marvin by your side and truly hope you are able to find a program that fits your needs and are able to move forward.
