I bought a car a year ago. The last 12 months i've been paid ahead by at least one, and sometimes two, months. Each payment made agreed with the online account as to when the next payment would be due. In February, I made the payment for April, and my online banking agreed that next payment would be due in May. Once the statement for Feb. 29th hit, my payment was moved back up to April. I went to the bank to see if I could get it straightened out. I've paid ahead anticipating a period of unemployment in the future. It took a few minutes but the final word was that RVCU made a change earlier this year, that if you make any extra payments more than 30 days ahead of the due date, it will be applied to principle and accrued interest, but will not push your payment ahead. So I now owe another payment for April 4th, which I had already intentionally paid. What if I had paid six months ahead? I think this is a terrible hardship to put people in, and I will be reporting this to governing agency/agencies. At the very least, people that have a history of paying ahead should've been notified of the change in advance. People that pay ahead should also be appreciated, not punished.
