The ADAMHS board does nothing but cover up the overwhelming and blatant negligence and abuse. Our societies most vulnerable demographics are NOT being "served" or "helped" by many of the local institutions operating within Cuyahoga county. Perhaps that's why you may keep hearing this new catch phrase and concept recently called "HARM REDUCTION". Yeah, that's because many of these places and their common practice are really, really harming folks. I am one of them, tragically. No, I am not playing victim either. In fact, I wrote an entire memoir. These local shelters and treatment centers, etc. have a long and documented history of denying client's vital case management services because they operate understaffed and/or have sadistic staff who exploit the power imbalance. Staff members who enjoy watching a woman go through her high-profile divorce without any access to a telephone, let alone, an attorney. The Adamhs board doesn't care or even begin to prevent it. They count on the fact that once the treatment center has billed each client and collected its large amounts of money (tens of thousands) from MULTIPLE SOURCES including, but not limited to... insurance, private donations, copious grant money, etc. That's all-in addition to taking considerable cash and/or food stamps. Once the billing and funding and grant money all comes through ... then as a client, it's off to the streets with you. Staff do things such as purposefully making people uncomfortable (e.g. opening a window and removing blankets), They purposely make things difficult, e.g. not allowing a client help with a newborn, causing injury from exhaustion . Misuse of medication (e.g. over-sedation) Forcible feeding or withholding food, even from children. Preventing stimulation, meaningful occupation or activities Intimidation, coercion, harassment, use of threats, humiliation, bullying, swearing or verbal abuse Addressing a person in a patronizing or infantilizing way Preventing a person from accessing their own money, benefits or assets. Arranging less care than is needed to save money to basic civil rights and due process. They have full knowledge these places are often run-down or overcrowded establishments. Authoritarian management or rigid regimes and lack of leadership and supervision result in dangerously insufficient staff or high turnover resulting in a well documented history of poor quality care and even worse clinical out comes. Abusive and disrespectful attitudes towards people using the service. Inappropriate use of restraint by staff. Lack of respect for dignity and privacy. Failure to manage residents and staff with abusive behavior. Misuse of medication. Failure to provide care with acute medical emergencies eg:"149/95 is a perfectly fine and normal blood pressure: said the evening staff..." and anyway, the ambulance doesn't come here on weekends", translated to mean, staff simply didn't want to do the paperwork. Not taking account of individuals cultural, religious or ethnic or medical and mental health needs. Failure to respond to abuse appropriately. Interference with personal correspondence or communication especially regarding extremely important matters. Failure to seek help or access services to meet health and social and financial care needs. Inability or unwillingness to assist as required to help to case manage EACH AND EVERY PRECIOUS AND VULNERABLE CLIENTS personal affairs!!! Patients with Medicare especially don't have a prayer. There isn't a single option current option available for women with kids except the Sadistic places sadly. Ask anyone in recovery, I am sure they will confirm this. Tragically
