My uncle has a checking account and saving account at the Wes Banco in Cincinnati Finny Town. My Aunt, a caregiver for my uncle (which is her brother) was included on my uncle’s checking account as she was responsible for paying his bills. My Aunts name was on the checking account, but it was not on his savings account because my uncle was able to call the bank when money was needed in the checking and have the money transferred. This past year my uncle had gone into assisted living and my Aunt continued to help with paying his bills for him. My uncle fell ill and landed up in the hospital and was unable to call the bank to make any transfer of money from his saving to his checking in order to pay bills. Money was needed to pay hospital bills and other bills so my aunt called the bank on Monday 1/25 to request that some money from the checking account be transferred to the savings account, the bank representative advised her that a power of attorney was needed to get the money transferred since her name was only on the checking not the savings account. My Aunt submitted the requested Power Of Attorney paper work to the bank right away. Later my Aunt called the bank to find out status of the transfer, at that time a representative from the bank said they received the Power Of Attorney paper work she submitted, but that they were reviewing it- “holding it to check it out”. As time was of the essence to get bills paid and as my uncle continued to decline in health, my Aunt called again on Friday 1/29 (mind you 5 days later from the submission of the POA paper work!) and spoke with the bank manager to find out if the transfer went through. At that time the bank manager, Mr. Denis proceeded to tell her and I quote “it was not transferred, you are trying to steel the money”. My Aunt was shocked by his accusation and distraught as she just learned her brother passed away that morning at 5:40am. She has been a caretaker for him for years and has never had issues with being a signer on his account until now - all of sudden they say she is trying to steel his money…What?! To make matters worse Mr. Denis proceeded to argue with my Aunt as to when my uncle passed he said my uncle had died the day before not that morning. Unbelievable! As my aunt was so upset over the comments made by the bank manager, Mr. Denis, she made an appointment to speak with him directly in person. When she met with Mr. Denis in person he denied the whole phone conversation and the accusations he made about her trying to steel my uncle's money. Unbelievable! What horrible customer service to say the least! Think twice before you bank at this branch!

Since WesBanco bought my former small town bank, it’s been a nightmare. I can’t deposit to the ATM after hours... only three locations in the city take ATM deposits. They refused to deposit a check made out to my son that he signed over to me. When I asked why, since this is standard practice with banks I’ve used for decades, the manager asked me when my son going to take responsibility for himself! When I asked him why he cares how my family manages our finances, he just refused to accept these checks. They are so anxious about fraud, they protect themselves at the expense of customer service, regularly shutting me out of my account as soon as I use my bank card while traveling in another city (still in the US). Today I found a new bank.
