Hi Alexis,We’re very disappointed to hear that you feel this way about our programming. We agree that everyone has the right to access the arts and have the ability to express themselves. This principle has guided the Clifton Cultural Arts Center for the past 15 years! Is there a specific program you were looking at that you feel isn’t accessible? (Google may not allow us to continue our conversation here, so email me at [email protected].)I would like to share that our gallery and exhibits are always free and open to the public, and our community room is free to reserve for community programming held by outside groups. The MakeShop also has free “open hours” every week where folks can stop in to work on creative projects at their own pace using our supplies. If you are looking for performances or events, many of these are also offered for free, and for those that are ticketed, admission typically ranges from $10-$15. Finally, we try to keep the tuition to $10-$15 per teaching hour for our arts and cultural education programs. Those fees go toward supplies and paying the teaching artists fairly. We know some classes take place over many hours or weeks, so this cost can add up. That is why we have what we feel is a straightforward and robust scholarship program, which ensures that all our programming is accessible to everyone.Since we seem to be of like mind about accessible arts, I’ll actually let you in on a little secret before I go. We have been exploring new ways to make our pricing structure more simple, friendly, accessible, and fair, and we will begin rolling out this new experiment very soon, starting with some of our summer classes, which will go online later this month.Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you’ll give us another shot.
