Very nice plants, but watch your money! I bought tomato plants there three times this year. First, I bought a flat for my initial planting because they had the variety I wanted. Then we had such a hard frost that my plants froze through their coverings, and I went in twice more. Flats of four are listed at $2.89 on their chalkboard, and I was glad to pay $3.11 the first time - that is $2.89 plus tax. The second time (first time I bought replacements) I laid $3.11 on the counter but got some back: there must have been a 10% discount that day. The third time gets them one star, because they actually stole $2 and charged me $5.11 for the flat. I wasn't sure of the price - discount or not? - so laid $2 on the counter and hunted for change. The clerk quickly put my $2 in the cash register, and since they wouldn't accept another dollar bill, I laid 11 cents more on the counter. They still weren't satisfied, wouldn't give me the plants, and motioned for me to leave (and donate my $2 to them, I guess). Eventually I gave them what they demanded: another $3.11, plus the $2 they had put in the register. $5.11 for a flat of four tomato plants advertised at $2.89! It didn't appear to be a mistake - they were too hostile. It seems to have been what is called gaslighting. They knew they had taken my $2, I knew it, and they knew I knew - but if they denied it, what could I do? Only leave without the $2 or the plants, and I wanted to replace all my tomatoes, so they got away with it. Riverside Gardens warns customers at the door that they charge extra for credit card payments, "to encourage cash transactions." I assumed this was because credit card companies charge them a fee, but it is a lot easier to whisk two dollar bills into the register and deny it than it would be to cheat on a credit-card transaction. Two dollars isn't a lot, but if they do this regularly it adds up. My advice? They do have beautiful, healthy plants. Use your debit card; they don't charge extra for those. I wish I had done that! I won't miss the $2, but it really spoiled my Memorial Day.
