My wife and I were super excited when we found out there was a Pizza Inn in Statesville, because it was one of the best pizza chains around when we were growing up but are few and far between now. Several years ago, we happened across one in Georgia and it was just like we remembered. Needless to say, we had big smiles and high expectations going in. I'll keep it short and to the point. First off, this location is not a sit-down restaurant with the buffet that everyone knows. It is CARRY-OUT or DELIVERY ONLY, and it shares space with a gas station. Not a huge deal, but still not what most people probably expect if they are familiar with the chain. We were surprised when we got there mainly because it popped up on her phone in the car and we didn't see the particulars. We were there on a Monday evening, returning home from a trip. Ordered one monster and one taco pizza. Cost was a little under $26 with the offer they had. Young man who took our order- friendly, but had to go in the back and make sure that they had the ingredients to make the monster pizza. Sus?! Young lady who got my order when I came back to pick it up- courteous, but had to "find" my second pizza. Sus?! One sus plus another sus equals one star gone. When we got home, I opened up the boxes and it turned out that the pizza that she had to search for wasn't mine after all... or they made the wrong one because it was a chicken fajita pizza, not a taco. Second star gone. Despite one pizza being wrong, the toppings and sauces were pretty good. Unfortunately, the crust was very undercooked. The underside was fairly brown, but the center half of the pizza had raw dough under the sauce. We ended up just eating the toppings and leaving the "crust." Third star gone. Since I noticed another review where something similar happened, I don't know if the undercooked dough is a result of the dough itself, bake times being reduced overall to increase volume, or pizzas getting pulled too early. Whatever it is, they need to fix it. Crust is what makes a pizza what it is... screw that up and the whole thing's ruined. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience as compared to those in the past. I'm not one of those who will let one bad experience turn me off of an otherwise fantastic pizza chain, but I will not be back to this particular location.
