I took a risk in trying something new with recruiting coming out of IT. There were aspects of the position that I really liked. My problem was mainly with management and low pay with poor benefits. I was willing to start at a lower salary to get some experience, but things were not improving over time. The more experienced recruiter working with me confirmed my suspicions that this place was a swamp of problems. I got almost NO feedback on submittals and often struggled to get the correct information on what clients were looking for in candidates. They did not really have the connections they claimed. Management flip-flops on what they want. Communication confusion, lack of updates, no one consistently using the database or updating information into it, and the jobs of recruiter, sourcer, resume writer, and office admin are rolled into one. Expect to wear multiple hats. This greatly decreases the time a recruiter has to actually recruit. Morning "meets" could also be well over an hour. Account administrators have no accountability. Still do not understand what they did other than take a cut of our small commission. Used lots of 3rd party contractors to fill posts as you don't really have time to recruit properly. Quality is touted, but in reality you are looking for warm bodies. I liked all my co-workers. We were all equally being crushed by misguided micro management. Good old boys Christian vibe. VERY HIGH turnover. Get some recruiting experience and get out.
