Recently we called Melton's to verify information about capital gains taxes on the sale of our house. We were under the belief that we would not have to pay taxes since it is our primary residence and we've lived there for three years and we would be netting under the $500,000 gain for married couples. Elaine, on the other hand, discredited the information our realtor gave us. She was adamant that we would have to pay at least 28% taxes on our profits (figured in additionally with our net income for the year). She also insisted that the rule was we had to own the home for 5 years and live in it for 2 for the capital gains tax to not be enforced. She was WRONG! We double checked with another accountant and both our realtors here in NC and in IL that the rule is no payment of gains tax for 2+ years you've lived in the primary residence and that the charge begins after $500,000 for married couples ($250,000 for individuals). She inserted her political beliefs early on about taxes in general. We did not appreciate that. She did our taxes for 2020 and never again will we use her services. We're even going to get someone to double check our taxes to make sure they're accurate because we have lost confidence in her.

Extremely rude and disrespectful. Needs to learn how to talk to people. Disgusting person obviously miserable in her own life. Be nice maybe someone would want to be around you! Have a great week sweetie!
