I hired this company to care for my 88 year old Father and possibly my 87 year old Mother. During the vetting process they said they would be able to handle the requirements of our family's contract. So, I hired East Carolina Home Care. The first day they were supposed to have someone scheduled to work a shift no one showed up and they had no one scheduled. They finally covered the shift toward the end of the day. We did have a few good caregivers. However, the majority of them were substandard, unprofessional and lazy including sleeping on the job. The company failed to address the lack of staff professionalism in any meaningful way because the poor service and the lackidaisical behavior continued. The administrator and the nurse in charge of the Rocky Mount office made it clear on several occasions they were unconcerned about the staffing issues our contract continually had. The nurse in charge of the Rocky Mount office was so blatantly unconcerned about the contract requirements that she told me to call the owner of East Carolina Home Care, Mr. Schwartz and tell him to come and cover a contracted shift that she refused to cover. Every time I spoke with someone in management I continued to get excuses. This company apparently has a history of providing services for folks that are covered by government paid benefits. Our family's contract is self-paid with a insurance company reimbursement. Therefore, it doesn't appear this company does well with a client that supervises the contract requirements, observes the caregivers actions or attempts to hold the company accountable for the requirements of the contracted services. Therefore, I DO NOT recommend using East Carolina Home Care for any caregiver services. Also, if I thought I could, I would try to make sure that this company doesn't receive any taxpayer dollars. Because if no one is watching them, I would believe they would be slacking off.
