I love the Carolina Ale House. I used to go to the one in Cary NC when it first opened. I frequent the one in Wilmington quite often where I moved. Tonight I had a to go order that had gratuity added to it. I typically tip 30-35%. The explanation was because it was after 10pm. I worked evenings. I called and the manager was pleasant so no complaints there. The other patrons were shocked and removed their tip as well. Im sorry if you open a restaurant in an area where people dont tip. I feel bad for the bartenders. 18% gratuity was still a lot for the service provided. There were 2 of us at the bar. If you want to make sure you have 0 bar patrons, keep this policy. Its only a few dollars, so it is what it is but just seems outrageous. I understand adding gratuity to a large party because they absorb a large tables for a long time but it was empty, you should be grateful for a customer. You would have made more without this crazy policy
