I was a teacher at Durham Community Preschool before I had my daughter in 2019. I fell in love with the community then, and I am even happier with the school as a parent in this new outdoor model. It has been the perfect first introduction to school for our 2-yr old girl. The teachers use the natural environment of the playground and the surrounding forestry in everyday activities, from pine cone art and puddle jumping to carrying logs and recording pumpkin observations. They also utilize Conscious Discipline techniques to support students' social emotional development and build self-regulation. The school shares Conscious Discipline tools and tips so we can use some of the same language and building the skills at home. The teachers and director are very caring and communicative. They were patient and supportive as our daughter (and we) transitioned into the school. They share stories and photos of what the kids are doing throughout the week, including quick pick-up check-ins as well as emails and updates in the Seesaw app. The outdoor model and commitment to Covid safety help us as parents feel safe sending our little one out into the world during this difficult time.

We have been part of the Durham Community Preschool (DCP) family for three wonderful years. We have been so impressed by the dedication of the staff and the executive director, Rose Volponi, to our kids' growth and development. The teachers have become a part of our lives due to their consistent care and attention to our girls. We are so lucky to have found this gem in Durham. Our kids have flourished here and are more prepared for Kindergarten than most of their friends. Moreover, we have made life-long friends within the DCP community, and are so proud to be a part of it. I would highly recommend this school to everyone!

We're starting our second year at Durham Community Preschool and love it. The teachers and staff are fantastic and we love the nurturing environment for our little guy.

DCP has been such an amazing experience for our family. Our daughter began there at 8 months during their summer camp program, and is entering her second full year this fall. I can't say enough good things about the quality of DCP's teachers and director. They have created such a warm, nurturing, and caring environment for our girl to learn, play, and grow. There is also a great community of families who are committed to and invested in making the school the best it can be-- we wouldn't be anywhere else! Rose, DCP's director, brings such a wealth of experience as a parent and educator to this school, and has been especially helpful as we navigate the joys of toddlerhood as first-timers. Our daughter is thrilled to go to school everyday and we couldn't be more grateful.
