Today was my first and last visit to this new practice run by Drs Keyser having taken over from retired Dr Hunt. Its been a frustrating transition from Dr Hunts retirement to getting this first appointment. In the interim I had to find a temporary practice for cleaning and treatment. Apparently, many practices in the Triangle area are having problems getting and keeping dental hygienists. Its rather fortunate then for the incompetent and rude hygienist who did my cleaning today that there is such a shortage because otherwise, she should not be working on patients. Firstly, when I told her I could not hold my neck in the position she wanted me to due to arthritis, she became annoyed and said I had to sit that way so she could see my teeth. I told her I could not and shed have to figure something else out, which, of course she did, but not too please to accommodate me. Throughout the actual cleaning she was very rough, rushed, and sloppywhenever she rinsed my mouth, she sprayed water on my face. She was repeatedly either scraping or jabbing my tongue with her sharp tool. Several times I pushed her hand up explaining what she was doingzero reactionno apology/no attempt to be careful. At this point in the ordeal, I decided that if I were to return to the office, I would not accept her for cleanings. However, what came next determined that I would never return at all. Its a bit of a complicated story but boils down to my not understanding why I would not be seeing the dentist after my cleaning which has been my standard post-cleaning procedure since Ive been going for such cleanings for six decades. I was especially concerned about not seeing him despite her reporting that she noticed some suspicious areas. Partly her rationale was because my last full X-rays were less than a year ago and Id have to pay out-of-pocket. That made no sense to me because patients do not just conveniently developed cavities right when comprehensive X-rays will be paid by insurance. Of course, if there are troublesome areas, dentist can order spot X-rays. Three times I tried to get this idea across and each time she cut me off. On the third interruption, I said, Will you please let me finish asking my question, to which she abruptly turned around and walked away in a huff as if I was annoying her. To that I said the f bomb, adding nevermind, Id never come back here. And she marched back out insisting she was trying to explain something and I said, Yes, and I had a question you would not let me ask and further that she was the worst hygienist Ive ever had in six decades.
