I would like to inform you that this school does not really care for you. I am currently going to excelsior and the experience has been horrible. Some teachers dont know how to connect with their students and they show almost no respect sometimes. At excelsior I feel like that I dont really belong. If you want your child to feel safe dont come to excelsior because they will not treat you well (especially African-American children). At this school they let girls get away with dress code violations like wearing none uniform pants or wearing very short shorts that go way above the knee and if a boy wears a non uniform jacket the have to take it off. This is my review on this school

In my opinion, this school is the best school in the STATE of NC. I have 2 kids at the school. Their teachers care about my kids wellbeing in and outside of the classroom. They care about them understanding the concepts taught more than just completion of work. We can feel the compassion from the administration when we had to go to the Office. I am so happy that my kids can stay at this school until the end of high school years. Thank you for spreading the love and for passing it on to our kids.

I am sorry to inform you however I feel it is necessary that mention that your boys middle school soccer team is very rude and disrespectful. We played against them and during the entire game we could hear them swearing at us and calling us foul words in Spanish. This is unacceptable behavior coming from children that are at the age of 13-14. I am deeply disappointed from what is called the "best school in Durham". I hope that you address this problem with the coach and have them stop this behavior. I have noticed this also happens with the other teams but it has happened the most with your team to the point where I have to address this. I am sorry to have to do this but somebody had to speak up.

My experience was not only horrendous but also unacceptable. I came here for a fresh start at a smaller, more hands-on school, where the students and faculty valued learning and a community. Communication and organization are terrible. Certain things were never explained clearly and they failed to ever provide a reliable answer. Classes are limited in high school, and there are only a few electives available; if you don't start with the school, then it is hard to catch up or to even have an adequate amount of choices for your high school pathway. I found our upper school dean to be ridiculous. She had favorites, talked negatively about other students, her phone calls were always unprofessional, and she argued until she got her point across to other parents. She was never around unless it was for punishment, and she made comments that made you uncomfortable, "you live with your grandparents, why is that?", "you are far behind", and "well that's not what I heard .." There was also a teacher who went out of her way to be terrible. This was in a high school of about 40 students. Whenever she heard about rumors, she would come in and make a big deal about them. She would whisper directly in front of you, scream down the halls, and would never just pull someone out of class and talk to them without making a big deal of it. That was Ms. Harris. I was wearing shorts to XC (There was no definite sports dress code) and she shouted "your butt is sticking out of your shorts!" I believe you should have had an official dress code for one, and should of pulled me aside. Then there was the male teacher who called all the girls baby, baby girl, or other nicknames. Additionally, he never explained anything unless you asked several times, would not let us use any methods but his own, we never had any clear notes, and it was always powerpoints and problems. There was always a 0 on homework unless you did it perfectly the way he wanted, and you had to go ask the other math teacher for help. I went from being an A student to failing.
