The Spa At Ballantyne, Charlotte

My cousin and I have gone for an annual spa day and overnight stay for a few years now. I hate to say this, because we have enjoyed it in the past and have always looked forward to it, but it is not worth it anymore. We booked 3 spa services, one of which was a deep tissue massage. Both of us experienced the same frustration, definitely not deep tissue and requests for more pressure fell on deaf ears. The manager was uninterested in our feedback . The pool service was strange. We never knew if they were serving drinks, food or just policing guests. We walked through the hotel to the bar in our robes for food and drinks. THE WORST part is that they now sneak in a 20% service fee, not gratuity, a service fee. On everything. So with a $400 service, they tack on an $85 service fee. Wasnt the $400 paying for the service? Room service, poolside service (if available), everything. So expect that. Its just no longer worth it.

Signed up for a 50 minute massage that started 6 or 7 minutes late but ended 50 minutes past the hour. We got there early. When I mentioned it at checkout, the woman apologized and said she would note it down. Not sure where... In her dairy? Price is high in my opinion plus they add the gratuity to the bill. I would expect better.

Sadly Ive had to change my previous review to an updated one due to my most recent visit. This place has gone absolutely downhill. From customer service severely lacking, let alone having attendants wear baggy champion sweatpants or extremely tight fitting pants as your first impression when entering the spa lounge is mind boggling. The spa lounge itself is disgusting. Red wine stains, tattered magazines that are severely outdated and lack luster snacks really set the mood as dumpy and gross. Throw in the fact that guests dont abide by the no cellphone rules and take photos in the lounge along with talking at full volume is beyond mind boggling. The only reason why I have come to the Ballantyne for years is for the phenomenal facial services that I get from Daniel. The day he is no longer with the Ballantyne, Im out. You can tell new management has taken over and is not experienced. Such a shame for a once luxury spa. Im better off going to a chain and paying 1/4 of the price.
