I'm proud to be a part of Gracious Hands and it's vision. Being part of the staff has been motivating and enlightening. And I'm excited about all of the great things to come.

She didn't leave us how and where she found us!! Thank you for loving us back to life!! I know she may have gotten tired of me telling her, but to say I'm grateful would be an understatement. Besides, it was my way of loving on her how she'd loved on me and my baby. Words could never express how grateful I am/was. She took us in, but what's different about this is she covered us!! No one has ever took us in and covered us!! You don't know how many times a day I'd tell God thank you. Just for being covered and safe it's because of God. Loving me so much and placing me in the hands of grace(see what I did there), Dr. Chisolm!!! No one shows up for us like you do. I remember so many times I cried and said I can't do this!! But she wouldn't let me give up on me!! Yep you read that right. "She" wouldn't let me give up on me!! I was broken and stuck in survival mode because that was all I ever knew. Dr. Chisolm kept pushing!! I was used to people saying they were there to help only to later reject me at my most vulnerable moments, just abandoning me altogether. So I kept my suitcase packed waiting for things to fall apart and for her to reject me. That was the state of trauma I had yet to realize I was in. Every program or shelter I'd contacted before Gracious Hands told me I didn't qualify because my homelessness wasn't a result of domestic violence, drug abuse or mental health. Then it shifted to being told my debt was too high, one even told me they'd take my child in but couldn't take me. How is that even legal? My child isn't welcome anywhere that I'm not welcome and vice versa. When I moved into Gracious Hands, it took me about 3 mos to unpack my suitcase. That's also how long it took me to realize I was I was safe.. I mean safe enough to stop existing and really live!! The individual therapy, group therapy, life coaching sessions, the list goes on and the support is real. Dr. Chisolm/Gracious Hands helped me to become disciplined in my mind, which leads to discipline in my boundaries, employment, finances, parenting, relationships, just an all around domino effect. To the women to come just know it's not easy but it's necessary and it's worth it. This is a program of accountability, discipline and transition. You have to keep it moving. Don't get comfortable and get stagnant. The program is only for a year and you can only enroll once so don't fumble it. If you can't do it for you, do it for your kids. They deserve a real chance at life. Poverty is a generational curse. Guess what?! It doesn't have to be! Break the cycle, break the curse!! The days of just existing are long gone ladies, it's time to live!!! I speak life and you shall live!!! Thank you Jesus, thank you Dr. Chisolm and thank you Gracious Hands!!!
