My complaint/feedback is not about medical services received, but rather to explain the wasted time & problems with paying a bill via the lobby kiosks & not getting a receipt in return (receipt necessary for insurance reimbursement). It took a half hour to doublecheck that the receipt was not in regular email, as promised. junk email or in My Chart. When I tried to call Billing, I waited a full 30 minutes for someone to respond. That person was polite but nearly useless. He finally posted the receipt (which should have been emailed to me) as a Message on My Chart (which has placement for bills, but not for receipts for bills that have been paid). He repeated (probably a half dozen times) That this is not a problem for billing because they don't oversee the kiosks, his dept is in a separate billing, & therefore, Billing has nothing to do with the problem of receipts not being transmitted to the paying customer (patient). Ridiculous & infuriating, with implications for other patients.

I am a triple Tar Heel, having received my bachelor's, medical and public health degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to medical school, I worked as a counselor and teacher for troubled teenagers on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and then as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural health in the Amazon Jungle of Ecuador. I have wanted to be a physician since I was seven years old. Although I took a round-about pathway, my life as a doctor is amazing. I love nothing better than seeing patients—from births to the end of life to everything in between. I consider it a true privilege to serve my community and everyday I thank my lucky stars for what I do. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, four children and rescue dog. I enjoy hiking, fishing, reading, movies, gardening, playing games and traveling.
