Pre-Covid I had no complaints. Like clockwork after a storm a plow would show by noon the next day. Post Covid, we're lucky if we ever see a plow. As of this moment, we have been waiting on a plow for 5 days... and counting. Our home is 1.5 miles from the Boone town line. We're not out in the sticks, we're simply not priority. To add insult to injury, the county recently raised our taxes. More taxes with less service = angry residents who need to get to work! I have a hunch there's a staff shortage at the local NCDOT office, but we're a county that is guaranteed wintery weather. The State of North Carolina and Watauga County's leadership should be ashamed. Watauga County residents deserve a safe drive to work.

The DOT in Watauga County has one of the toughest jobs in N.C. during the winter , thanks a lot ! People who gripe and whine about the ( underfunded) DOT are probably the same people who complain about paying their taxes ...go figure.

A big shout out to Watauga and Avery DOT for keeping the roads salted and open this winter. As I come and go from Sugar Grove in the wee hours of the morning to take care of my Dad on Old Beech it makes such a big difference in safety... Appreciate your efforts!!!! Just called to let them know that the shoulder is washing out on Mast Gap Rd where the sink hole was a few weeks ago. Real enthusiastic response. Not.
