Thank you for your stay with us earlier this month. We're saddened to see that you've rated us as a 1-star, and cannot imagine why. We were able to offer a discounted rated on your room, and we really thought that you enjoyed your stay with us in our Appalachian Room. If you'd reach out to us at [email protected] to let us know your experience and allow us to learn from it, we'd be grateful! Thank you,Mike and Katy

image For many many reasons, we had not been to the Red Rocker for close to a year because it had just gone downhill. We would go there at least 2x a month, so we decided to give it a try again on Friday and we were very pleasantly surprised. The service was fine, but the food was excellent. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes had a wonderful, creamy quality to them, and the seasonal vegetables were not cooked to the point where they were absolute mush. They still had a little bit of crunch to them. It was delicious.
One suggestion..the website is not accurate as far as the menu. One of our favorite desserts was always the peanut butter pie. It still shows it on the website, yet we were told they no longer have it. There are some other discrepancies as well. To prevent people from being disappointed, I think it would be helpful to have the menu updated on the website.
We will go back again.

Thank you for returning to The Red Rocker Inn! We're so happy that you enjoyed your meal with us and that your meal exceeded your expectations. We've been busy making necessary updates to the inn and to the restaurant menu...and we're happy to say that the peanut butter pie will be back again this week! Katy is baking pies this week and it will be included on the menu! We have items come and go from the menu seasonally, so we have been featuring the menu via our social media pages. We hope that you'll come and have the pie again soon while it is fresh on the menu! Thanks again,Mike and Katy

image We stayed in the Elizabeth's Attic suite and enjoyed our stay! We loved the charm of the Inn and our room (we had a gas fireplace and large soaker tub ). The food was amazing (they even had gluten-free options!). Giving it 4-stars because the location felt a little strange, being in the middle of a neighborhood. The location of the Inn is within walking distance of downtown Black Mountain.
Walkability: A 5-10 minute walk (depending on your walking speed) to downtown Black Mountain. You can park your car at the Inn and not have to use it until the day you check-out.

Thank you for your stay with us at The Red Rocker Inn! We're so glad that you enjoyed your time with us and our Elizabeth's Attic Suite was to you liking! The fireplace, soaking tub, coffee center and mini fridge make the suite even better! We try to think of everything you might need, and even have wonderful Shea Butter bath products for you made for us by a firm in NC. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your meals in our restaurant too. Our historic Inn was built as a home by the Dougherty family, who our neighborhood (and street) are named after. So, you're right...it was a home and is located in a neighborhood. A quiet, tree lined neighborhood with pretty, historic homes lining the street within walking distance from downtown. Thank you for your stay and your kind review. We hope to see you again soon!Mike and Katy

image The Red Rocker Inn is a beautiful Inn. Unfortunately, we cannot say that the stay was as nice. Our stay was on a Sunday night, so no dinner service was available. They did have out chocolate chip (awful store bought) cookies for a late-night snack. When we retired for the night, we found our room (Music Room on first floor) extremely cold. I went to the check in desk and pressed the Ring for Service button, but no one responded. I then called the owners phone and was only able to leave a voice message. Again, no reply. Our room had no heat coming into it at all and that night we were very uncomfortable due to it being cold in the room. We had every blanket on the bed, to no avail at keeping us warm. The next morning the owners didnt even acknowledge our problem until check out. They said that housekeeping should have had a space heater in the room as they knew of the problem. They didnt even mention why no one was available during our stay to assist us. We traveled with friends who stayed in a room next to ours. They did have a space heater and were told not to run it with anything else in the room. It would blow a breaker. Im glad they didnt as no one would have been available to reset it.
As for breakfast, coffee was served after 8:00am, one pot for the entire breakfast room. Several tables tried to get coffee but none came. The food was just okay except for the hash brown casserole which no one at our table could finish.
We stay at Bed and Breakfast Inns often. Weve never had an experience like this, the hosts were distant and not very friendly. The reviews for the Red Rocker Inn looked great and we were excited about the stay. They must have been for the previous owners as the new ones lacked the warmth and experience to run an inn. We reached out to the owners before writing this review by sending an email about our experience, and did not receive any response.
Rooms: Nice 19th century inn. Only problem is no heat or ac in the ground floor rooms. We spent a frigid night as the owner forgot about giving us a space heater before they left the premises

We've taken a moment to respond to your review and want you to know that we take to heart your comments about the inn and about us personally. We've looked in our email inbox and can't find communication from you. As far as the call button you mention, it rings in the kitchen and when you pushed it late at night the kitchen had already closed for the day. There is though, in each room, an information card with a phone number to text and had you done that we would have been able to respond to your issue right away. We do retire for the night pretty early, as we get up early to cook breakfast for our guests each day. We thought that we had had nice conversations with you, especially in the morning at breakfast...and are really surprised to hear your feedback about us and our breakfasts. That said, you've alerted to us to the fact that a space heater was needed to be stocked in your room. Since we didn't have the chance to be made aware of the severity and address your concerns in the morning, we couldn't offer any solutions to you while you were there for the one night. We'll absolutely learn from your stay.Mike and Katy
