Joseph Brian S MD

This review is 6 years late but as I am finally beginning to reconsider professional help for my mental health, I believe that sharing my experience with Dr. Joseph Brian to be an important step. I saw Dr. Brian back in 2014 as a young woman who had quietly been suffering from depression through out her preteen and teenage years but never sought professional help. I had just withdrawn from college and was dealing with extremely suicidal thoughts when I first stepped into Dr. Brian’s office. That first session Dr. Brian greeted me with a VISIBLE SIGH before waving me over. For the entirety of our 3-4 sessions, Dr. Brian continued the behavior of acting inconvenienced by my mere presence, bored, and exhibited a complete lack of compassion. I understand that Dr. Brian is a psychiatrist and specializes in prescriptions rather than therapy, but as a mental health professional, Dr. Brian should have know better than to conduct himself in such an unprofessional and unwelcoming manner. If I were a stronger person at the time I would have spoken up. But I wasn’t. I was a girl experiencing one of the darkest times of her life and was finally at the breaking point of asking for help, something she had never felt herself worthy of receiving. And when I finally reached out for that help, I was treated as an unwelcome visitor intruding on an old man’s day. I stopped going after 3-4 sessions. To this day I have not again sought professional help, and while I understand that my mental health is my own responsibility, I cannot help but think that Dr. Brian failed me in his duty as a psychiatrist and if I wonder how my life would be different if I had stepped into the office of any other psychiatrist.
