This house is just as much art museum as history. I went on a fantastic tour with a very informative guide, whose name I sadly cannot remember. I picked the most expensive tour, which was around $60, if I recall correctly, but the tour was well worth the price. The tour included the house and the grounds as well as the secret art museum underneath the house which led into Rockefellers reception cave (?! This man was loaded!). We also got to see the coach house with a great number of historic coaches and cars. Having been on many tours of historic homes and places across the eastern half of the country, I can easily say this was one of the coolest places Ive seen. The art alone, both historic and modern, makes it worth the visit. There are a number of Picasso pieces and tapestries (who knew Picasso did tapestries?!) and a Noguchi sculpture among the large collection. The sculptures and art pieces are all very well placed and the gardens are kept immaculately along with the fantastic architecture. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. If you enjoy history and art, then the three hour tour is 100% worth it and you are ripping yourself off if you settle for less.

A must see in Westchester county New York. The tour guides are very knowledgeable. This is mostly a museum for the collected art works of the Rockefellers. Beautiful grounds and buildings. This place needs work though. It would be nice to add holiday tours and outdoor garden tours and classes. Night time lighting shows could be fun. The tour is very long 3 hours and you meet up in the Hudson valley store for the shuttle. This tour requires good stable walking shoes and is not for those who cant do stairs or endure many hours on their feet. Reservations are highly recommended. Visit in June for the Rose garden or in the Fall to see leaf colors. This would be a great place to take a family holiday pIcture for an older grown family who can all walk a few hours. Children would be entirely bored here. This is an educational venture.
