New Frontiers in Learning is unique from the many other private companies which provide instruction in executive functioning skills in myriad ways. Most importantly, the approach and philosophy as indicated on its website actually parallel the daily practice at each of its sites. Contrary to many other businesses which provide similar services, New Frontiers’ genuine priority is that of its clients’ needs. By providing individualized, customized, and flexible programs for each student, students are able to receive the direct instruction in their specific areas of need, rather than following a generic template of a program.
New Frontiers also emphasizes two essential skills that unfortunately, many similar companies lack— self advocacy and generalization of skills. That is, students are taught about their learning profiles and how to use their strengths to compensate for areas of weakness to become more independent, confident, and successful. Direct instruction in generalization of skills is also imperative, as it is a common problem that students will use strategies but only in isolation, at the learning site. Here, however, they are taught to independently transfer newly developed skills to all facets of their lives, as executive functioning is essential to work, academics, life skills, social pragmatics, and more.
Another way in which New Frontiers presents as unprecedented is its emphasis on those preparing for upcoming transitions (from school levels, onto college, toward vocational programs, the workforce, or, for adults, within their professional fields.)
All of the coaches at New Frontiers are highly trained, either in special education and/or related areas such as mental health, psychology, speech-language pathology, etc. They work collaboratively and this team approach extends to each student and family (plus any other professionals involved.)
Certainly, this comprehensive company has an excellent approach and proven success rate. Neither of which, however, would occur without the dedication and compassion of all its staff members.
