Ashcan Studio of Art

I attended Ashcan for almost 2 years starting in sophomore year of high school and took their intensive portfolio program in the summer of 2023. Ashcan pushed my limit as an artist both conceptually and in skill. Theres also a great environment for both students and instructors to form bonds and socialize with each other. Personally, Ive made so many unforgettable memories and friendships here that Ill be carrying with me through my lifetime. Its thanks to Ms. Kim, Mr. Kim, and the amazing instructors (especially John!) at Ashcan that I got accepted into 10 out of my 12 schools (including my top schools, RISD and BU, through regular decision.) If youre truly interested in pursuing an education/career in art, Ashcan is an amazing place to start that journey and I cannot praise them enough for how far theyve gotten me.

ive been at ashcan for 5-6 years from middle school to the end of high school and have always loved my experience here. ashcan will always hold a special place in my heart and i will miss all the amazing teachers and people ive met during my time here! im so grateful to mrs kim for making me work hard and push me out of my comfort zones, its really her that got me into amazing schools like cornell and boston university (both RD!). im genuinely so thankful to everyone here who contributed to both my growth as a person and as an artist! will never forget the countless memories ive made!!!

I live an hour away from Ashcan, but its absolutely worth going there. Its the best art studio near my home.From my experience, being at Ashcan opens up creative insights and pushes your boundaries, it will make you realize that you can do so much more as long as you put the time and effort into it. It gives you a sense of what studying art is like in college.Yes, it requires many hours in each sessions and the tuition can be high, yet Ashcan has gotten me into one of the finest Ivy League schools in the nation. The investment of time and money is worth it. Yet the most precious things I would say is the meaningful friendships I formed there, with a lot of them with similar cultural backgrounds to mine that I otherwise would not have meet coming from a majority white community. Without Ashcan, I wouldnt have met those close friends. Choosing to attend Ashcan has been one of the best decisions my family and I have made, and the memories Ive created there will always hold a special place in my heart. Shout out to the teachers there, and especially to Mrs.Kim. She genuinely cares about her students and I especially remembered her staying after with Mr.Kim on New Years Eve just so me and one of my other classmates can finish a project before the deadline.

I went to Ashcan for three years. The teachers are incredibly supportive and talented. I received incredible feedback and instruction and when I began preparing for college applications they helped me prepare not just with the art portfolio guidance but also the mental and emotional support to push through. I applied to 13 schools and I was accepted to 10 (Im still waiting on one school) including an Ivy. And I received scholarships to every school which I completely contribute to the art portfolio I was able to prepare because of Ashcan.

even though I've only started to come to ashcan in November 2022, it created many precious memories for me. I also got into my dream school(parsons). In ashcan, teachers and adults are super nice and knowledgable in art and knows how to give suggestions to improve your work. I learned many drawing skills which i have never tried in the past few years. Art isn't the only thing i gained from ashcan, I've also made friends who drew and laughed with me. Undoubtedly, i became more outgoing and sociable because of ashcan. I have made friends to talk with while working and all the memories we made together can never be replaced. Without noticing, we have created our own trashcan family here. #trashcans
