1600 Elmwood Avenue Apartments

1600 Elmwood was an excellent place to live. The location is convenient and the apartments are of good quality. I have lived here for 5 years but have had significant issues in the last year. For the past several months, the units have had a SEVERE mice infestation. Each time I notified the leasing office (and manager) about the mice problem, they would "exterminate" by setting mousetraps. This clearly was not a solution. Proper and professional extermination was not a priority for management until I threatened to leave. Management sent out letters to residents stating that there is a mouse problem, but the letters are used as false assurance that they will actually resolve the problem. After seeing more mice roaming my apartment and several having died in my apartment, I had to pack up and leave because the mice infestation had gotten so out of control. They were chewing up my shoes and chewing through the food in my cabinet. The maintenance workers divulged that there was, in fact, a mice infestation in many of the units as well as rats in the maintenance facility unit. It was also revealed by the district manager that they did not take proper action to control the infestation. In total, 5 mice have died in my 500 sq ft studio apartment (which costs $1200 and rising) within a span of 3 months, and many more have been seen roaming around. I have a paper trail of documentation and communication between me and the management and am working with an attorney to settle this issue of having to break my lease. Hopefully, management takes their residence seriously and will hire real exterminators to examine and solve the mice infestation. Beware if you decide to move here. Again, it's a comfortable, quiet residence, but management has (admittedly) dropped the ball in securing their units from mice.

I have to say, I am so grateful for the staff that works here. There is a severe wind storm right now, freezing rain and I am watching these guys salt the sidewalks our steps, the roads in the complex and I just want to say thank you. We really appreciate you guys, happy holidays!

I called asked to be mailed a application because I seen a lawn sign saying apartments available spoke with the lady took my address and all I never received a application. I wonder why smh

Staff have consistently been superior during the 4 years I've lived at 1600 Elmwood. Maintenance staff are outstanding, and complete any repairs immediately, even on holidays. The grounds are immaculate during all seasons. Snow removal has been exceptional, and timely for staff who work various hours. Repairs to buildings is ongoing, and occurs prior to the development of major problems. The swimming pool is well maintained. The apartments are pest free. Common areas are well cleaned. Staff have been flexible to meet the needs of residents. For example: as older buildings, heat needs to be changed to air and vice versa, but occurs based on weather and not rigidly by date. Routine maintenance is announced in advance, and is flexible based on residents' work/sleep cyle. The gym is basic, but some equipment was recently updated As a pet friendly apartment building, disposal bags are provided. Residents span all generations and are respectful.Appropriate precautions have been taken during COVID. With utilities except water included, large apartments, garage rent less than storage fees, and access to grocery store, pharmacies, bank, cleaner, and public transportation, 1600 Elmwood is a bargain. I am leaving due to relocation.
