Etan Paul Sugarman, MD

I am two years tardy in writing a glowing review for Dr. Sugarman & co. He was the attending ortho at Lenox Hill Urgent Care in the West Village when my husband shattered his ankle nearby in a bike accident in Feb 2021. Dr. S had a very human, as well as clearly expert, touch in a tough situation; ultimately, for surgery, he handed my husband over to his ankle-focused partner (Dr. Daniel Seidman). I, on the other hand, turned to Dr. Sugarman for a meniscus fix a month later later--and appreciate that surgery was his idea of last resort (he is conservative in the best sense). From start to finish and afterward, he and his whole care team were great--very hospitality-driven, said no one ever about a medical practice-- and the results for this fifty-something have been solid. I am forever grateful to his and his partner's care of me, my husband and finally, my mother (who broke her foot and was cared for by Seidman) in the spring of 2021.

I was so lucky to have Dr Sugarman do my hamstring reconstruction. I compared notes with another person who had a different doctor, Sugarman had me in physical therapy weeks sooner, weight bearing weeks sooner, off my crutches weeks sooner and my range of motion and PT was so much better because he had me in a continual motion machine the day after surgery. Did I mention he did the sutures using plastic surgery techniques so I didn't have a train track on my butt the way others do. Pain management was incredible. He is also empathetic, personable, encouraging, honest, straightforward and generally a great doctor. Can not recommend him enough. Office was organized , service focused and responsive. Having hamstring reconstruction sucks but thanks to Dr Sugarman, it went much better than I had expected. TEN STARS!!!!!

Dr. Sugarman is wonderful. He is very sympathetic, listens well and takes you seriously. He was my surgeon and it went very well. After surgery he was very responsive with follow ups and returned calls. Highly recommend.

I expected very little from just a phone call since I had been in pain for 5 months and had determined that there was no prospect of help until my treatment could be continued in person. Dr Sugarman could not have been more helpful with the reassurance of additions to my in-home routine plus the expectations of the re-opening of my local office with a new treatment to relieve my pain. His explanation of the treatment and the hope he created of relief to come soon made me sleep well for the first time in months and feel less anxiety, and even less pain, the next day. If he can do all that with just talk, imagine what he will accomplish with hands on!!
