I had been having increasing shoulder problems for years, and after doing my research, I finally went to see Dr. Donald Heitman. He was very cheery and listened well; then he explained my options. I was a bit leery of surgery, so I decided to try the physical therapy route. Dr. Heitman in no way rushed me to choose surgery, and supported my choice to try PT first. After many months, PT did strengthen me, but could not resolve the underlying issues. Dr. Heitman patiently answered all my questions and I finally decided to do rotator cuff repair surgery. Everything went very smoothly, thanks to his ace surgical coordinator, Daniela, who sorted out all the details along the way. The surgery went well and I am now in the post-op rehab process which is progressing very well. To get an optimal outcome, I strongly recommend that you closely adhere to the doctor's instructions and also complete all the PT sessions, including daily home exercises, which are essential. This takes time. There are no guarantees, but I am extremely pleased with the results, so far. Dr. Heitman is an excellent, highly competent orthopedic surgeon and has a pleasant manner and is easy to talk to. He explained exactly what he did, why and how he did it. I recommend him very highly and his staff are very professional. I am very happy with my choice.
